I have loved Sailor Moon since I was a young girl but I have never gotten a chance to read these books。 Now at age 29, the final lines of this book brought me to tears。

I watched Sailor Moon as a kid in the 90s when it came on at 5am, then a teen when it moved to Cartoon Network。 Thanks to Hulu I watch it on a loop lolThis summer to relax I decided to read the mangas after finding them online。 First time reading them! Not gonna lie it took me some time to read this volume。This being the last of the series honestly was a little anticlimactic。I think Naoko being "pushed" in a way to continue the Sailor Moon manga series + plus adding more & more characters caught I watched Sailor Moon as a kid in the 90s when it came on at 5am, then a teen when it moved to Cartoon Network。 Thanks to Hulu I watch it on a loop lolThis summer to relax I decided to read the mangas after finding them online。 First time reading them! Not gonna lie it took me some time to read this volume。This being the last of the series honestly was a little anticlimactic。I think Naoko being "pushed" in a way to continue the Sailor Moon manga series + plus adding more & more characters caught up。 I'm sure she was happy to be done though。It got a little confusing at times when it came to who was actually talking and what happened。。。。。。 I had to read some pages again several times especially to figure out ChibChibi's situation。 Why wouldn't Naoko just let Usagi remember all that happened? I would think that would make her cherish her friends and this world more? I did wish that when everyone came back together that they would have met up with the Starlights one last time。 Obviously Usagi & Mamo getting married was adorable and I let out a loud aaaaahhhhh 。。。more

Waaaah!! No more Sailor Moon now。。。FOREVER!!! Last book in the series, and it ended perfectly。I thought I knew how the series was going to end, but towards the end when all of the Guardians' crystals were stolen and Sailor Moon was growing weak, I started to lose faith。 I thought, "Dang。 Is it really going to end with Sailor Moon maybe succeeding but not being able to save everyone else? I can't believe I have now re-read all of the volumes from the original manga 。。。 It feels weird。 I still definitely love this series。 As an adult, I obviously see some flaws with it that I didn't as a child。 But the love is still very much there。 I can see how much consuming this kind of media shaped me as a person。 I really like the way this has an open-ending tbh。 The Sailor Cosmos thing is sort of brilliant。 I love her story (view spoiler)[ coming back to make sure Sailor Moon destroys the C I can't believe I have now re-read all of the volumes from the original manga 。。。 It feels weird。 I still definitely love this series。 As an adult, I obviously see some flaws with it that I didn't as a child。 But the love is still very much there。 I can see how much consuming this kind of media shaped me as a person。 I really like the way this has an open-ending tbh。 The Sailor Cosmos thing is sort of brilliant。 I love her story (view spoiler)[ coming back to make sure Sailor Moon destroys the Cauldron, so she chose to appear as a tiny child to give her hope, but then realising that's not the way to go? PERFECTION! (hide spoiler)] I also enjoy the fact that Sailor Moon has to do this on her own。 No one comes to rescue her。 She has to finish this by herself, only with the knowledge that the others trust her to strengthen her。 I will say that it was all a bit rushed and could probably have done with another volume just to wrap the whole story up more nicely。 I also wish the Sailor Star Lights had a bigger role to play in this。 It felt like they were barely there to begin with before the story ended。 Maybe that's just me though, because I really enjoy them。 It feels weird to say goodbye to this for now。 So, it's more of a "see you later"。 。。。more

I was surprised to see a Sailor Moon, exhausted from the constant fighting, tired of betrayal, feeling trapped and unable to keep going while watching her friends getting killed one after another。。。 I had a hard time reading the last two tomes because it was actually painful feeling everything along with the characters! I loved the fact that it had a lot more layers than the anime and they will both, forever have a special place in my heart。 But the truth is that this sh*t left me an emotional wreck。 Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to binge My Little Pony until I remember what happiness feels like again。 。。。more

First off, my apologies to everyone whose Goodreads feeds was cluttered and spammed with my Sailor Moon updates the past days, but, well, I can't help it that all those manga series are so long。。。I'm not really a manga specialist, but I've always had the impression that Sailor Moon is one of the biggest manga franchises of all time and I'd been trying to get my hands on the original one for quite some time when I got lucky and found the original 12-part series for €10。。。So, basically it's about First off, my apologies to everyone whose Goodreads feeds was cluttered and spammed with my Sailor Moon updates the past days, but, well, I can't help it that all those manga series are so long。。。I'm not really a manga specialist, but I've always had the impression that Sailor Moon is one of the biggest manga franchises of all time and I'd been trying to get my hands on the original one for quite some time when I got lucky and found the original 12-part series for €10。。。So, basically it's about a teenager Usagi Tsuniko who meets a talking cat, gets a gift and finds out she can change into this alter ego called Sailor Moon, who has superawesome powers and has to save the world and the universe - again and again and again - together with her other Sailor friends。 The original series, which I've just read, consists of 5 different story arcs。 As the story progresses, she meets new Sailors and finds out they're all linked to the 30th century。As I already mentioned, I'm not used to manga and other Japanese art, I'm much more of a European/Franco-Belgian comics person, so the drawings are very different than what I'm used to。 I must say I've never much liked those manga and anime series with characters that have very sharp angles and stuff。 That, thankfully, is not the case here。 It's still clearly different, a bit more straight-edged than usual for me, but it didn't annoy me。 Most of the time, I really liked the style - the only thing that I did find a bit ugly were the Sailors' legs, which at times were very long。 As usual, the designs are in black-and-white, which makes the story a bit more difficult to follow sometimes because it's not always 100% clear what's happening - but on the other hand, I do think that your eyes might start hurting if it was all in colour。。。 The biggest problem I had was that some of the characters look a bit like each other, so I got confused a few times when I wasn't sure who was doing something。I read the story in German, which isn't my native language by far, but thankfully I understood nearly all of it。 The story arcs aren't easy, but I wouldn't call them difficult either。 If you're not used to this kind of literature/art, just take your time and it will turn out fine。 There are some great action scenes - also with great drawings - spread out over several pages, at the end even over - I dunno - two entire chapters, I believe。 Wow。 It's very exciting, it never slows down。 All in all, all five arcs combined must account for about 2700 or so pages, so there is a lot going on。Most of the characters are fantastic as well。 I was a bit scared at first that there would be much talk about Sailor Moon/Usagi's relationship with Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru Chiba, but somewhere in the second arc that all dies down a bit - it doesn't disappear, but it's not the centre of attention anymore, for which I was very glad indeed。 Then, I feared that Chibiusa would turn out to be one of those annoying new characters you'd hate for the rest of eternity, but that turned out to be fine as well。 And everyone else is just terrific, I loved all of them, and each Sailor gets her own moment in the spotlights, they all have a nice background worked out。 My favourite character, in case you're interested, is Sailor Pluto/Setsuna Meiou。 Don't ask why, I just like her best。7/10 。。。more

What a beautiful ending to the series。 I had never actually finished reading this series growing up, so decided to finally finish it。 It's a nostalgic read, bringing back all the memories of watching the series as a kid。 Sailor Moon, the show and manga definitely have some issues in the story telling, but overall I love it。 Sailor Moon was one of the first stories I had seen with so many female leads growing up。 Especially, a female lead that didn't necessarily NEED the protection of her love in What a beautiful ending to the series。 I had never actually finished reading this series growing up, so decided to finally finish it。 It's a nostalgic read, bringing back all the memories of watching the series as a kid。 Sailor Moon, the show and manga definitely have some issues in the story telling, but overall I love it。 Sailor Moon was one of the first stories I had seen with so many female leads growing up。 Especially, a female lead that didn't necessarily NEED the protection of her love interest。 They have have sweet romance and together they are stronger than if apart。 Obviously I wanted to be a sailor scout too ;) Who wouldn't want that crew of friends。 Loved reading this full series。 。。。more

Review of the entire series。 Sailor Moon, you likely will be forever immortal。For you are the most beautiful, shining heavenly body of all time。Sailor Moon was probably the very first anime I watched in my life when I was a child, and to this day it still has a huge impact in me。 That's why I'm surprised I didn't read it earlier, despite having the physical copies of the manga since like 6 years ago—well, but better late than never!Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is the story of Usagi Tsukino, wh Review of the entire series。 Sailor Moon, you likely will be forever immortal。For you are the most beautiful, shining heavenly body of all time。Sailor Moon was probably the very first anime I watched in my life when I was a child, and to this day it still has a huge impact in me。 That's why I'm surprised I didn't read it earlier, despite having the physical copies of the manga since like 6 years ago—well, but better late than never!Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is the story of Usagi Tsukino, who, by chances of destiny, finds a talking black cat named Luna, that unveils her true identity: a soldier destined to fight for love and justice, Sailor Moon。 Little by little, Sailor Moon meets her friends and companions: the Sailor Guardians, protectors of the planets, as well as her love, Tuxedo Mask。 Together they go through many dangers, risking their lives to protect the Earth and Universe to secure a bright and peaceful future。This final arc was full of emotion, it brought me to tears several times, and I definitely must say that it's one of the best endings ever written。 It's a little bit confusing, and when I had just finished it I think I understand it completely different: (view spoiler)[I don't know why but for me they all died at the end, and were hoping to be born again to be together finally。 But then, with the last scene of the wedding I started realizing that。。。 well, at the end they actually returned to the Earth—I must admit that I like to think everyone died expecting the possibility of their reunion in another life, just as in all the story。 I know it sound very tragic, but I like suffering a bit haha。 (hide spoiler)]。 Still I'm not quite sure how everything happened, but it was such a powerful and emotional ending, truly worth of one of the greatest mangas ever written。 And the very last quote—the one I wrote at the beginning of this review—is the best closing line, I just couldn't contain my emotions and tears。I absolutely love how Naoko Takeuchi managed to create such a beautiful and complex magical world, reflecting all her great knowledge of science, astronomy and geology to develop her story, and taking it to a new level: she not only wrote a typical story where romance is everything for a girl, but that she can be a heroine, she can be the one who fights to protect what's important to her。Also, amazing art by Takeuchi, her drawing is outstanding, and evokes femininity and beauty even in the hardest battles。 I just LOVE everything about this。 And that's it, if I don't finish talking about it I'll start crying again。 。。。more

Also, I know that Usagi and Mamoru get married, but isn’t Usagi still 15-16 when she goes inside the cauldron? I know that in one of the earlier books, they did mention that Usagi married Mamoru when she was 22 and had Chibi-Usa shortly after。 I felt like the author could have transitioned the fight to the wedding better。 The final battle also seemed like it was just explaining stuff。 No real content behind it。 I mean I get it, there’s always going to be darkness when there is light。 But, it could have been written better or explained better。 I don’t know? I understand that the author may have done all of this to keep the fan base guessing to keep the fan base alive after the series was complete。 However, to me, it just felt rushed。 I felt like Naoko could have fleshed out the story just a tiny bit towards the end。 I haven’t read the short stories yet。 However, just by reading the first couple of pages, it seems that the short stories are focused on what happened between the fights in earlier books。 I wish that the short stories focused on the what happened between the final battle and the wedding。 That would have resolved a lot of confusion and also could have focused on Usagi and Mamoru’s romance。 (Think about all the cute and fluffy scenes we could have had between them!) Overall, I think it was kind of an underwhelming conclusion to the series。 。。。more

I should have realized that Chibi-Chibi was (view spoiler)[Usagi as guardian of the cosmos (hide spoiler)], especially since I've read these before。 Admittedly, it's been almost 20 years。This manga is pretty, mystical (focused on crystals as sources of life and power), and nonsensical at times, but now and then it gets deeper than I'd expect for a story that was originally written for middle schoolers。 "If it weren't for conflict, could life exist?" That kind of thing。 It's thrown out there to be taken up by the reader, or not。 There's plenty of bombastic pastel entertainment to be had, regardless of that。I enjoyed Sailor Moon just as much the second time through as I did the first。 (Now to watch the anime? all 200 episodes of it?) It feels much more sincere than I'd expect a huge, worldwide multimedia behemoth to be。 I recommend it both in its own right, and as a piece of manga history, a sort of retro bridge between the shoujo of today and manga from the '70s such as Rose of Versailles (which I am very much looking forward to reading, now that it has an official English translation)。 。。。more
